We will be putting out a patch release in November to address the regression bug with reorder mode that was recently discovered. It should be out soon.
We are also working toward the roadmap release that will include external Solr. That is planned for the end of the calendar year.
Webinar Announcement: Making the Required Move to External Solr
ArchivesSpace will be offering a webinar on making the required move to external Solr for new ArchivesSpace releases next Wednesday, November 3rd at 2pm ET/11am PT. In this webinar, members of the ArchivesSpace program team will provide background information about this necessary change and walk attendees through some considerations for downloading and installing Solr.
Webinar: Making the Required Move to External Solr for ArchivesSpace
When: November 3, 2021
Time: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. ET (11:00 a.m. – 12:00 pm PT)
This webinar will be recorded and made available on the ArchivesSpace YouTube channel.
ArchivesSpace uses Solr for its search platform. Due to necessary upgrades that require moving to external deployment of Solr for the application, beginning in late 2021 deploying ArchivesSpace will require installing and configuring Solr. This change will not affect end users directly, but it will be a significant change for system administrators and others who deploy and manage ArchivesSpace.
In this webinar, members of the ArchivesSpace program team will provide some background information about this upcoming change to the way ArchivesSpace is deployed. Team members will then walk attendees through considerations and logistics for downloading and installing Solr at their own institution.
An open discussion and Q&A will follow.
Who should attend:
Anyone who manages their own implementation of ArchivesSpace and anyone planning to upgrade to any version of ArchivesSpace after ArchivesSpace v3.1.x.
Please contact us at ArchivesSpaceHome@lyrasis.org with any questions.

Final days of Hacktoberfest 2021
This October, ArchivesSpace again participated in Hacktoberfest, a month-long celebration of open source software run by DigitalOcean. Hacktoberfest is open to anyone who contributes pull requests to participating open source repositories on GitHub or GitLab. Those interested in participating in Hacktoberfest have until October 31st to submit their pull requests.
Whether you’re new to ArchivesSpace development or a long-time contributor, we encourage you to get involved. No specific background or skill level is required to get started, and all community contributions are welcome and appreciated. To learn more about submitting a pull request for ArchivesSpace specifically, visit our wiki.
To qualify for the official Hacktoberfest competition, you must register and make four pull requests between October 1-31. Pull requests can be made to any public repository on GitHub or GitLab, including ArchivesSpace. Any qualifying pull request submitted to the ArchivesSpace GitHub between October 1 and October 31 will get a Hacktoberfest label. To learn more about qualifying pull requests and how to notify Hacktoberfest of your pull requests, visit the official Hacktoberfest website.
In addition to the official Hacktoberfest swag options, ArchivesSpace will acknowledge all submitters, regardless of number of pull requests, in our monthly update. The community member who submits the most pull requests in the month of October will receive an ArchivesSpace swag bag! Last year’s winner of the coveted ArchivesSpace swag bag was Joshua Shaw from Dartmouth College. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to ArchivesSpace.
